Women's Golf Tees Off Spring in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -The No. 25 ranked Texas Tech women's golf team begins its spring schedule on Sunday when it tees off at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at Wyndham Rio Mar Resort and Country Club River Course.
"We've been waiting for this trip for a long time and are excited to be here," Texas Tech head women's golf coach JoJo Robertson said. "Puerto Rico is a great place to get our spring season started. Our team has had some good rounds of practice and I think we are ready to go."
Ranked No. 25 in the Golfweek national rankings (as of Feb. 10, 2016), Texas Tech is one of 16 teams competing in the event including No. 8 Arkansas, No. 61 Auburn, No. 28 Clemson, No. 5 Georgia, No. 49 Augusta State, No. 70 Indiana, No. 18 Iowa State, No. 9 Kent State, No. 29 Louisville, No. 117 Maryland, No. 40 Michigan, No. 27 North Carolina State, No. 6 Northwestern, No. 19 Purdue and No. 45 TCU.

Hosted by Purdue, this is the ninth time in school history that Texas Tech will compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. It last competed in the event in 2014.
Texas Tech's five-player lineup will feature freshman Emma Ballard, senior Sarah Brown, sophomore Gabby Barker, sophomore Lauren Mason and freshman Mami Yamamoto. Freshman Cara Barker will compete as an individual.
Barker is coming off a fall season that saw her rise to the nation's No. 1 individual ranking by Golfstat. She also earned Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors after winning a pair of tournaments (Jim West Challenge and Betsy Rawls Invitational) in October. She closed the month with six sub-par rounds for a 70.88 stroke average.
