Men's Tennis Vaults to No. 10 in ITA Rankings

Texas Tech is one of four programs to have its men's and women's teams inside the ITA Top 10 rankings.

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Texas Tech men's tennis team advanced four positions to No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Red Raiders (12-1) dialed up a neutral site victories over then No. 4 Baylor and then No. 11 Georgia at last weekend's ITA National Indoor Championships. Tech is one of four schools to have both its men's and women's programs inside the nation's Top 10 joining North Carolina, Ohio State and Virginia.
"I'm extremely happy for the program and for our players to meet one of the goals that we set before the season," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We know it's still very early in the season. We want to continue to keep improving and keep moving forward so we can play our best tennis when the end of the season comes."
The Red Raiders are one of a nation-leading six Big 12 teams ranked among the ITA's Top 25 which include TCU (2), Oklahoma (8), Baylor (13), Oklahoma State (15) and Texas (24).
The ITA singles and doubles rankings will remain the same until Feb. 24. Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas are the nation's No. 2 doubles tandem. Soares also checks in at the No. 11 spot in singles followed by Alex Sendegeya at No. 61 and Dojas at No. 110.
Next up, Texas Tech plays host to UTSA and Utah State in a Saturday doubleheader. First serve is set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, from the McLeod Tennis Center.
