Texas Tech Softball Falls to South Dakota 5-3

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- Texas Tech softball (4-6) fell to South Dakota (1-9) in its final game of the 2016 Campbell/Cartier Classic, hosted by San Diego State University at the SDSU Softball Stadium Sunday morning.
South Dakota scored its first run of the game on a two out double by Sydney Hancock that drove in Katie Cochran from second base.
The Red Raiders would fight back in the bottom half of the frame as center fielder Jordan Bettiol would lead off the inning with a single through the middle of the infield. Following a steal of second, Bettiol came into score on a throwing error by South Dakota catcher Olivia Huffman.
The Yotes would add another run in the third, before exploding for two more runs in the fifth on a five hit inning.
The Red Raiders would respond in the bottom half of the inning as Jordan Bettiol would come in to score her second run of the day on a Devon Thomey RBI ground out pulling the score to 4-2 heading to the top of the sixth.
Following a one run seventh by the Yotes, Texas Tech would have its work cut out for them in the home half of the final frame. The Red Raiders responded by adding a run of their own and bringing the tying run to the plate, but the rally would be held short to close out the 5-3 South Dakota win.
Sunday's game marked the first meeting between the two teams in Texas Tech softball history. The loss moved Texas Tech starter Dominique Alcocre's season record to 1-4.
The Red Raiders will return to action on Thursday as the team will travel to Louisiana Lafayette to face the 7th-ranked Cajuns at Lampson Park.
