LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech softball claimed an 8-1 victory over Boise State in their second game of the 2016 Jeannine McHanney Memorial Classic Friday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.The Red Raiders found themselves trailing by one after the first inning, but were able to get on the board in second when two Texas Tech players reached home on an error after an infield grounder by Kirsten Schwirtlich.
Dominique Alcocer came in relief of Cheyene Powell in the third and completely bottled the Broncos, allowing just one hit in four and a third innings.
A big third inning from Texas Tech broke the game open as both Kierra Miles and Brooke Scott recorded an RBI single, while Schwirtlich brought in another run on a sacrifice pop up extend the lead to 5-1.
The Red Raider bats stayed hot in the fourth as Miles hit a three run home run, her eighth homer of the season, bringing the lead to 8-1. Texas Tech finished the game off with six straight scoreless innings and improve the Red Raiders to 12-15 on the season.
With the win, the Red Raiders move to 5-1 all-time against the Broncos. The win also improved the Red Raiders to 27-2 all-time at the Jeannine McHanney Memorial Classic.
Texas Tech will be back in action on Saturday as the Red Raiders will face Georgia Southern and Boise State in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Fans can follow all of the action from the 2016 softball season by following @TTUSB on Twitter.
