Texas Tech Places Three on All-Big 12 Second Team

LUBBOCK. Texas -- Texas Tech placed three student-athletes on the All-Big 12 second team that was announced by the conference office Tuesday as part of the league's annual postseason awards.Juniors Kierra Miles and Susan Welborn were joined on the All-Big 12 second team by freshman Kiani Ramsey, who was also named to the All-Big 12 freshman squad. This is the first career postseason honor for the trio, who helped lead the Red Raiders to a 23-32 record during the 2016 campaign.
Miles, a native of Mustang, Oklahoma, led the Big 12 with 17 home runs in 2016. The slugging right fielder started all 55 games for the Red Raiders and finished second on the team with a .344 batting average. Miles recorded 56 hits, including 28 for extra bases.
Welborn, who played her first season behind the plate after beginning her Tech career in the outfield, started 54 games in the Red Raider battery in 2016. Welborn recorded 31 hits in 2016 including 11 homers, a mark that ranked second on the team. Welborn finished the season with a .256 batting average and 29 RBI.
Ramsey, a native of Portland, Texas, tied the Red Raider single season record with four triples. The left fielder made 53 appearances for the Red Raiders in 2016, including 52 appearances in the starting lineup. Ramsey led the team in with a .348 batting average and finished near the top of the team with 23 runs scored.
The three selections this season mark the seventh-straight year where multiple Red Raiders were represented on the All-Big 12 teams.
