After a heavy downpour of rain moved the event inside at the Drake Relays, Culver went to work, clearing his first two heights (1.98m/6-6 and 2.03m/6-8) on his first attempt at the bar. At the next height (2.08m/6-9.75), Culver used two tries to make it over successfully, but then made quick work of the next bar set at 2.13m/6-11.75 on his first attempt.
Down to his final crack at 2.18m/7-1.75 and the last of the three remaining competitors in the field left to clear, Culver sailed over the bar to advance to the next round. He would be the first and only student-athlete to clear 2.22m/7-3.25, doing so on his first attempt to earn the win.
The clearance was the best among collegiate competition last weekend, as he continues to lead the NCAA in the event for the fourth-straight week.
Culver and the Red Raiders stay at home this week to compete at the Masked Rider Open on May 6-7 at the Terry & Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex in the final meet before the Big 12 Championships.
