Texas Tech Places Seven on All-Big 12 Academic Teams

LUBBOCK. Texas -- Texas Tech senior infielder Brooke Scott led a group of seven Red Raiders recognized Thursday on the Academic All-Big 12 teams that were announced by the conference office.Scott, one of six Big 12 student-athletes nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, is joined on the first team by fellow seniors Kirsten Schwirtlich and Jordan Bettiol as well as juniors Ashley Fultz, Kierra Miles and Brittany Warnecke.
This is the first career honor for Schwirtlich and Bettiol, while Fultz, Miles and Warnecke earned their second straight All-Big 12 Academic first team selection.
Junior Mattison Maisel wrapped Tech's list of honorees by being recognized on the second team for the second time in her career. The seven selections marked Tech's second most on the Academic All-Big 12 teams since 10 Red Raiders were named to one of the two teams in 2012.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the previous two semesters.
Each student-athlete must have also participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
