Three Red Raiders Tee Off At World Amateur Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas --Â Three Texas Tech men's golfers will represent the Red Raiders as well as their respective nations this weekend at the World Amateur Team Championships, with tournament play beginning Wednesday and running through Saturday.

The competition will take place at the par-71, 6,988-yard Mayakoba El Camaleón Golf Club and the par-72, 6,771-yard Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Hannes Ronneblad and Fredrik Nilehn, coming off his individual title at the Carmel Cup, will represent Sweden. Hurly Long will represent Germany.

The event, conducted by the International Golf Federation and hosted by the Mexican Golf Federation, is held every two years and will feature over 70 teams from across the globe competing for the Eisenhower Trophy.

Each team will play with two or three golfers, who will all golf 18 holes over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team makes up the team score for the round. The team with the lowest total score after 72 holes takes the title.

Long will tee off from the first hole of the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club at noon CT. Ronneblad (11:30 a.m. CT) and Nilhen (11:40 a.m. CT) will begin from the 10th tee of the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club.
