Andrew Hudson pushes for personal-records that earn both conference and national recognition.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore sprinter Andrew Hudson brought home the first Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the Week award this afternoon as announced by the conference office. This marks Hudson's first career conference award.
Hudson paced two first-place finishes that also proved to be personal-best marks. His 200-meter 20.80 performance earned him global recognition, as it is the No. 2 mark in the world so far this season. Hudson's impressive speed also pushed him to the No. 1 spot in the NCAA. The sprinter improved his time .43 seconds from his personal-record at last year's Tyson Invitational.
The 60-meter dash time of 6.68 positioned Hudson to tie for fifth in the NCAA so far this year.
"I am so pleased with Andrew's first meet. I know he was disappointed with his performance last year so this is an incredible showing for him," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "It displays all of the hard work he has put in during the off-season and it is great for him to start off with personal-bests in both the 60m and the 200m."
This marks the fourth-straight season that a Red Raider has garnered this weekly award following the opening meet.
Texas Tech will head to their second meet of the indoor season Saturday, January 21st at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas.
