LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics announced plans Friday to honor the memory of Officer Floyd East Jr., whose life was taken suddenly Monday night while serving as a member of the campus police department.
Â
To honor his memory, the Texas Tech football team will wear a special helmet sticker Saturday when the Red Raiders travel to face West Virginia. The helmet sticker, which is a black ribbon with East's name written in a blue backdrop, will also be worn Oct. 21 when the Red Raiders host Iowa State for Homecoming.
Â
The Red Raider soccer and volleyball programs will also wear an armband with the ribbon design this weekend. Tech Soccer hosts No. 25 Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Friday night inside the John Walker Soccer Complex, while Tech Volleyball welcomes TCU for a 1 p.m. first serve Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena.
Â
In addition, Tech will observe a moment of silence prior to both home matches this weekend as well as the Iowa State game. Ribbon stickers will be available prior to the Iowa State game for fans to wear in East's memory.
Â
The athletics department previously lit Jones AT&T Stadium in blue earlier this week to honor East as well as the Texas Tech police department. The stadium will be lit in blue again on Monday and Tuesday of next week during the time East is interred.
Â
For those who wish to support East's family, Texas Tech has established a memorial fund in his honor. To donate, please visit here.
