Lady Raiders Advance at ITA All-American Championships

Maltby and Talaba move on to Round of 16, Dvorak and Federici advance to doubles quarterfinals
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Junior Felicity Maltby and senior Gabriela Talaba picked up wins on the opening day of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships main draw, advancing to the Round of 16.
After qualifying for the main draw yesterday, Maltby took down No. 3 seed Sara Daavetila of North Carolina in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).
No. 2 seed Talaba dropped her first set to South Carolina's Mia Horvit before coming back to win 6-4, 6-0 in the second and third sets.
Maltby is set to face Aliona Bolsova of Florida Atlantic tomorrow.
Talaba will take on Denver's Julia O'Loughlin to start the second round tomorrow. The two previously met in singles play of the NCAA second round last season.
Doubles duo Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici defeated North Carolina's Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham 8-6 during the Round of 16 after a first-round bye. The two faced Aney and another Tar Heel during a dual match last season.
With the win, Dvorak and Federici advanced to the quarterfinals and will face Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo (Auburn) tomorrow morning. The pairs met twice last season, including a match during the Sweet 16. In the first meeting during the finals of the Blue Gray National Classic, the match was unfinished.
The Auburn duo defeated Dvorak and Federici in the Sweet 16, 6-3, but the Lady Raiders came back to win the dual match, 4-2.
