LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball has named Amarillo native Kori Cooper Director of Volleyball Operations, head coach Tony Graystone announced Tuesday.
Cooper comes to Tech from Cedar Park High School where she was the head coach since January 2016. In her only season, she led the Timberwolves to the title game of the Class 5A State Tournament and a 42-12 overall record. This will be her fifth year on a coaching staff at any level.
Cooper, a 2005 graduate of Amarillo High, played four years of collegiate volleyball at the University of Nebraska, earning a bachelor's and master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2009 and 2011, respectively. During her playing career, she earned multiple All-Big 12 First Team, All-Region VII and Academic All-Big 12 awards while helping the Cornhuskers to the 2006 National Championship.
"I'm very happy to have Kori on board as our new Director of Volleyball Operations," head coach Tony Graystone said. "Kori is a talented and driven individual and her work ethic and attention to detail will make her very successful in this role. I've known Kori for a long time and am excited to add someone with her character and experience to Red Raider volleyball. She is going to add a lot to our program and will definitely make us better."
After earning her degrees, Cooper returned home to coach and teach at Amarillo High from 2012-2014. As an assistant varsity coach, she helped the Lady Sandies to the 2013 4A State Championship. While pursuing her career in volleyball, she also utilized her degrees by serving as a Speech-Language Pathologist at BSA Hospital in Amarillo since 2011.
She was hired at Grapevine High School in July 2014 and spent two years directing the volleyball program. Under her guidance, the Lady Mustangs posted a combined 66-31 record in 2014 and 2015, winning area championships both seasons. For her efforts, she was named the Texas District 6-5A Coach of the Year both seasons.
