LUBBOCK, Texas – Backed by one of the greatest come-from-behind victories in Super Bowl history, former Texas Tech standouts Danny Amendola and LaAdrian Waddle are World Champions after the New England Patriots rallied for a 34-28 overtime victory Sunday night at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Â
This is the second Super Bowl title in Amendola's career as he was a member of the Patriots' fourth world championship in Super Bowl XLIX. It was the first Super Bowl title for Waddle, who participated in two games this season but was inactive Sunday night.
Â
Amendola, who was playing near his hometown of The Woodlands, Texas, was one of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's most popular targets in the win as the former Red Raider wideout caught eight passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Â
Amendola was on the receiving end of a six-yard touchdown strike from Brady midway through the fourth quarter that cut New England's deficit to 28-20. He later helped tie the game with less than a minute to play in regulation as Brady fired to Amendola on a screen play to convert the two-point conversion.
Â
According to ESPN Stats and Info, Amendola is one of three Patriots all-time to score multiple Super Bowl touchdowns with the organization, joining the likes of David Givens and Mike Vrabel.
Â
Amendola played four seasons with the Red Raiders (2004-07) before the Dallas Cowboys signed him as an unsigned free agent in 2008. During his Red Raider career, Amendola caught 204 passes for 2,246 yards and 15 touchdowns while also averaging 11.1 yards per punt return.
Â
Waddle, meanwhile, was a four-year letterwinner at Texas Tech before also launching an NFL career as an undrafted free agent. The Detroit Lions signed Waddle, a native of College Station, Texas, in 2013 before the Patriots claimed him as a free agent late in the 2015 season.
