Player's Blog: Finding Our Rhythm
February 08, 2017 | Softball
Oh yeah, I'm sure everyone knows what time of year it is, and if you don't then get with it. Come along and join our journey this season because it's time! Who is OUR you might ask? Texas Tech Softball - that's who.
We're back and ready for the biggest season yet. New beginnings! With new beginnings comes new beats, new swag, fresh mindsets and a new rhythm. But what is our rhythm exactly? Upon the return of school following winter break, we were challenged as a unit to find our rhythm before our first game.
We had 22 days to figure it out, and that's exactly what we were going to do. Every day of practice we encountered brought on a new step. Taking it one day at a time, we made it our purpose to make the best out of all the preparation days we had left.
Shaking our tail feathers to the left and right, up and down, and side to side, we slowly began to unmask this groovy beat we've been dancing too. Some days were cold and windy. Who am I kidding, most of them were, but we kept dancing. There were times where things got challenging, but we kept applying pressure. After all the most beautiful things are made under pressure.
I must admit that not everything was perfect. Imagine 21 girls off beat, stepping on each other's toes, limbs swinging in all directions - let's just say we aren't your ideal dirty dancing casts. However, as time began to dwindle down, we began to enjoy the process day by day. We discovered things together about ourselves that only the process could have revealed to us. Our strengths became more prominent than our weaknesses. Our mental aspect, became just as important as the physical. Our vision apparently has been failing us our entire lives when it comes to softball (INSIDER), but we're working on it. Thanks, Ryan.
What I'm trying to say is that things around Rocky Johnson are very much alive, and it's getting better every day as the sun rises and sets. I believe there is always something new to learn or discover. I am not saying that we have this game all figured out and we know all that there is to know, but we are all moving in the same direction to be better than the day before.
We vow to take this season one day at a time, one game at a time, releasing the bad, and building off of the great. As we continue this countdown, I am proud to say that we have found our rhythm, now all that's left to do is transfer these smooth moves onto the field (God help us all).
On a serious note this 22 day challenge was a few of our last times preparing for a season. This is the senior year of the biggest senior class yet, and I would be remorse if I did not shout out to all of these beautiful strong girls. Not that I am not proud of everyone else, because I am from the bottom of my heart, but to these eight senior girls who have been with me since I started, you are appreciated, and not a day of your hard work goes unnoticed. I salute you for making it this far, and wish you all nothing but the best in your future endeavors.
My heart saddened and filled with great joy, as I am writing my last blog. This is our last go round, and I am inviting everyone out this season to come and watch our 2017 team give the performance of a lifetime. One sound, one beat, and most of all, one rhythm. Bring your cameras, put on your dancing shoes, clap your hands, stomp your feet; let's get this show on the road!
