Newly-hired running backs coach Jabbar Juluke inherits three experienced rushers this spring
LUBBOCK, Texas - When Jabbar Juluke returned to Lubbock this spring as Texas Tech's new associate head coach and running backs coach, he found several familiar faces in his position room.
Juluke, who spent the good portion of a month at Tech last winter, inherited three experienced running backs this spring in senior Justin Stockton, junior Demarcus Felton and sophomore Da'Leon Ward. He briefly coached both Stocton and Felton and helped recruit Ward before departing to take a similar position at LSU in his native Louisiana for the 2016 season.Â
Ward led the Red Raiders with 428 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2016, becoming the first true freshman to lead Tech in rushing since Shaud Williams in 1999. Felton, meanwhile, finished second on the team with 354 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Stockton added 154 yards and a touchdown on the ground to go along with his 21 receptions for 220 yards and pair of touchdowns.
The Red Raiders resume spring practices on Tuesday afternoon in anticipation of opening their best-of-three series between the offense and defense next Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.
Tech will also make a trip to The Star in Frisco for its Spring Game on April 1. Tickets for that game are officially sold out. The game will air live on FOX Sports Southwest Plus as well as the FOX Sports Go app.
The Red Raiders will close the spring with "Saturday Night Lights" inside Jones AT&T Stadium on April 8. That event will be free to all fans.
