Men's Team Given No. 12 Preseason Ranking

This marks Texas Tech’s second highest men’s preseason ranking in five years.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's track & field team is ranked No. 12 in the preseason U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) computer rankings.

The Red Raiders opened up their outdoor campaign last weekend in San Antonio, Texas at the UTSA Invitational with 14 top-three finishes.

Werner Bouwer made his debut for Texas Tech at the Park West Athletics Complex last weekend in the javelin throw with a winning 72.16/236-9 mark to put himself on the map. This currently sits Bouwer in the No. 3 spot on the NCAA combined outdoor qualifying list.

Drew McMichael also picked up a first-place finish in the pole vault with his 5.15m/16-10.75 clearance.

A 400-meter hurdle personal-record was also created by Caleb Richmond last weekend. Richmond paced a 51.96 run to claim second overall.

The Red Raiders will head to Abilene this weekend for the ACU Invitational on March 24-25 for their second outdoor meet of the season.
