Red Raiders Kick Off ACU Meet

Erin Lopez and Rose Njoku are currently leading in the decathlon and heptathlon.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's performance in Abilene this afternoon showed a good start to the two-day event.
Erin Lopez ended the day in the lead and pushed to notch two new personal-record marks in the decathlon.
Lopez jumped 7.14m/23-5.25 in the long jump improving from his previous best mark of 7.05m/23-1.75 made last week at the UTSA Invite.
Also improved upon was Lopez's shot put mark, throwing a best of 12.21m/40-0.75.
Rose Njoku is currently leading in the women's heptathlon with 3,050 points after her 100-meter hurdle, shot put, high jump and 200-meter dash performances.
As for the distance runners, Shea Whatley, Rianna Randolph and Ebenether Wondaferew all claimed top-two finishes in their respective events.
Wondaferew paced a new personal-best 10,000-meter run time of 33:20.58 to claim first. Randolph claimed second with her 42:00.37 run. Whatley also claimed second in his 5,000-meter run clocking a 15:30.45 run.
The discus performances brought in sixth and seventh place finishes from Marcus Franklin and Happiness Okeke with their throws of 49.22m/161-5 and 43.08m/141-4 respectively.
The meet with pick up tomorrow at 9 a.m. continuing with the decathlon followed by heptathlon at 10:15 a.m.
