Volleyball Hosts TTU Spring Tournament Saturday

Red Raiders begin second spring slate under head coach Tony Graystone.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball kicks off its spring with the Texas Tech Spring Tournament Saturday, March 25, at the United Supermarkets Arena. Admission is complimentary, and there is a limited concession stand available for fans in the arena.
The Red Raiders will play four matches on the day, all on court one. Tech is scheduled to take on Cisco College at 9:30 a.m., UT Permian Basin at 11:30 a.m., Abilene Christian at 1 p.m., and Angelo State at 3 p.m.
Eight teams in all will be participating with Midland College, Wayland Baptist and Frank Phillips College rounding out the competition. The event will be played on three courts with new matches beginning every hour. Each match will consist of two sets to 25.
Saturday marks the first of three events for Texas Tech this spring, the second spring under head coach Tony Graystone. The Red Raiders host Wayland Baptist on Wednesday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m., at United Supermarkets Arena, and then travel to the Lone Star Classic College Showcase on Saturday, April 15, in Dallas.
The Red Raiders return 13 student-athletes from last year's squad, including junior libero Reyn Akiu, who posted the school's second-highest single-season dig total last fall on her way to All-Big 12 Second Team honors. Akiu and junior Missy Owens, a midterm transfers from Long Beach State, participated in the U.S. National Team Open Tryouts earlier this month in Colorado Springs, Colo.
