Texas Relays Day Two Shows Strong Results

Triple jumpers Viershanie Latham and Charles Brown both made top-10 Texas Tech marks.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech concluded day two at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, with a few strong performances, two of which notching top-10 Texas Tech marks.
"We had some good efforts today and will get to close out some finals tomorrow," Head Coach Wes Kittley said. "Tomorrow I am looking forward to seeing our relays try to get some good handoffs as well as make some strong individual efforts!"
Viershanie Latham hit her second wind aided top-10 mark in the triple jump this outdoor season at 13.45m/44-1.50. This came on her fifth jump of the day, allowing her the No. 3 spot in Texas Tech outdoor wind aided records. Latham's first school record was a second place jump last weekend at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene, Texas.
Joining Latham in the triple jump front was Charles Brown claiming an eighth place finish. Brown's 16.01m/52-6.50 mark landed him the No. 5 wind aided Texas Tech outdoor spot.
Both the men's and women's 4x100 relays had strong finishes to move onto tomorrow's finals at 1:30 p.m. and 1:35 p.m.
Steven Champlin, Andrew Hudson, Trevin Chambers and Kyle Collins composed the relay lineup for the men clocking a 39.88 run for fifth place.
The women's 45.18 run was put together by I'Shunique Hamilton, Marika Brown, Tiffani Johnson and Sara Limp for eighth place.
Werner Bouwer made his second javelin appearance for the Red Raiders throwing a fifth place 70.41m/231-0 mark.
Tiffani Johnson, I'Shunique Hamilton and Marika Brown made their second 100-meter runs of the day following their relay run clocking times of 11.62, 11.66 and 11.65 respectively in the 100m dash. Both Johnson's and Hamilton's times were recorded as personal bests.
The sprint medley relay, run by Andrew Hudson, Trevin Chambers, Steven Champlin and Charles Jones, clocked a time of 3:17.74 to claim a third-place finish.
Darien Tennon and Dorian Williams competed in the men's 110-meter hurdle finals, completing their runs in times of 14.36 and 14.60 respectively.
Jocelyn Caro and Miguel Bautista travelled to the Stanford Invitational to compete in the 5,000-meter run. Caro improved from 16:18.54 to a new lifetime-best 16:11.82. Bautista concluded the Invitational with his run of 14:13.49
Tomorrow's competition will start with the women's high jump at 11 a.m. Following as the first running event is the men's 4x100 relay finals at 1:30 p.m.
