HOUSTON, Texas – After severe weather prevented the Red Raiders from opening the season at the Barcelona HBU Classic in Houston, Texas Tech volleyball head coach Tony Graystone has announced his squad will travel to Denton, Texas, and open the 2017 season on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. against North Texas.
Â
The Red Raiders were slated to play four matches this weekend in Houston, but due to the threat Hurricane Harvey poses to the area, HBU cancelled the event Friday morning.
Â
"After looking at all the factors, it was important for us to leave town and put other things ahead of volleyball," head coach Tony Graystone said regarding the situation surrounding Hurricane Harvey. "Houston Baptist ended up shutting down the university, so we were disappointed to not be able to play there. Thankfully, North Texas was willing to take us in, so we are excited about the match in Denton."
Â
The Mean Green are hosting the North Texas Invitational Friday-Saturday, featuring Tulsa, UTEP and Montana.
