Red Raiders Wrap Up Open Scrimmage
August 05, 2017 | Football
The Texas Tech football team held an open scrimmage inside Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday.
With fans able to get in for free, a couple thousand spectators populated the west and south sides of the stadium to take in the action.
After stretching and some special teams and position periods, the first and second team offenses took on the first and second team defenses.
The defense had the upper hand early, forcing three three-and-outs and a turnover before the offense got on the board with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Nic Shimonek to Keke Coutee.
From there, some of the day's big plays included interceptions from Desmon Smith and Justus Parker, with Parker returning his for a touchdown. On the offensive side, Caleb Woodward had a long touchdown run, Justin Stockton bounced a short run outside for a touchdown, and Desmond Nisby showed his potential as a big, bruising back, plowing through bigger defenders multiple times,
"The offense started slow and the defense started fast, but then the offense got rolling and the defense gave up a couple plays," head coach Kliff Kingsbury said. "It's been back-and-forth like that throughout camp so far. The only thing I was disappointed in was the amount of penalties. They were the first reps of the year for both us and the referees, but we still have to clean that up."
With just 28 days until kickoff, season tickets are still on sale for as low as $184 a seat and can be purchased online or by contacting the Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH. The list of ticket options for 2017 includes the "Red Raider Pass," a mobile-only selection designed for recent Texas Tech graduates looking for an affordable and convenient ticket plan. The "Red Raider Pass" is on sale for $150 a seat and can be purchased by visiting www.TexasTech.com/RedRaiderPass.
