Men's Tennis Heads to Midland for Fall Debut
September 14, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Jackson Cobb won a pair of consolation matches at last year’s Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
MIDLAND, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team travels to the first of its seven fall events at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland over the weekend.
Justin Bloss and Matheus Leite, two of the three members of Texas Tech's freshmen class, will make their debut for the Red Raiders this weekend. The duo will be joined by Jackson Cobb, who posted two singles wins in super tiebreakers at last year's event.
"We always want to get the guys out there and competing during the fall season," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We had a few of them compete over the summer here and there. Now, it's time to get going and get our feet wet. The fall is all about building match confidence. That's the best thing for a tennis player. We aren't about X's and O's where we can practice plays like other sports. I want to see the guys play with hunger, do well and respect what we're trying to do. It's early, and we haven't been able to work with the guys a lot individually heading into this first weekend."
Next weekend, the Red Raiders will turn their attention to the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
