Each week, texastech.com recaps the performances of Red Raiders currently playing in the NFL. The 2017 season opened with a couple solid performances from Red Raider receivers playing for the Patriots and Raiders.
Anthony Lynn - Head Coach, Los Angeles Chargers
Week 2Â Matchup: Miami 19, Los Angeles 17
For the second-straight week, Lynn's shot at his first-career win as an NFL head coach was derailed by a late missed FG. The Chargers are 0-2, but have only lost their games by a combined five points. Lynn was a Red Raider running back from 1988-1991, and was an All-SWC selection in 1990 … He was also a member of the back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Denver broncos in 1997 & 1998.Â
Danny Amendola - Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
Week 2Â Matchup: New England 36, New Orleans 20
After a big performance in week one, Amendola sat out due to an injury as the Patriots picked up their first win of 2017. Amendola has caught 371 passes for 3,552 yards and scored 17 touchdowns in his NFL career … On top of that, he has hauled in four career postseason touchdowns, including scores in both Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LI … Amendola was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
Le'Raven Clark - Offensive Lineman, Indianapolis Colts
Week 2 Matchup: Arizona 16, Indianapolis 13 (OT)
Clark logged four special teams snaps in a tough overtime loss to Arizona. Clark was the first of three Red Raiders to hear their names called in the 2016 NFL draft, going at No. 82 overall … Clark started all 51 games of his Red Raider career, and his senior year he was named a CBS Sports second team All-American ... He was the third-round pick of the Colts in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Michael Crabtree -Â Wide Receiver, Oakland Raiders
Week 2 Matchup: Oakland 45, New York Jets 20
Crabtree pulled together a career performance against New York, tallying three TDs in the same game for the second time in his career on just six receptions. He now has 533 receptions for 6,415 yards and 46 regular-season touchdowns in his professional career … Crabtree played two seasons at Texas Tech (2007-08), where he became the first receiver in collegiate history to win the Biletnikoff Award twice, before the 49ers selected him with the 10th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Cody Davis -Â Defensive Back, Los Angeles Rams
Week 2 Matchup: Washington 27, Los Angeles 20
Davis played 41 snaps in L.A.'s close loss to Washington, recording two tackles in the process ... Davis was a four-year letterman with the Red Raiders (2009-12) and then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Rams in 2013.
Jakeem Grant -Â Wide Receiver, Miami Dolphins
Week 2 Matchup: Miami 19, Los Angeles 17
Grant picked up 21 yards on three punt returns in Miami's season-opening win over the Chargers ... Grant was Miami's sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after a senior year at Tech in which he averaged 181 all-purpose yards per game which ranked fourth nationally, and ranked fourth nationally with 1,017 kickoff return yards and fifth with two kickoff return touchdowns … CBS Sports tabbed him as a second team All-American.
Kerry Hyder, Jr. - Defensive Line, Detroit Lions
Week 2 Matchup: Detroit 24, New York Giants 10
After a breakout performance in 2016, where he led the Lions in sacks, Hyder suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the 2017 season. Hyder joined the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2014 after a Red Raider career which included a litany of All-Big 12 honors in 2013 and 2014.
Patrick Mahomes II - Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs
Week 2 Matchup: Kansas City 27, Philadelphia 20
The 10th overall pick of the 2017 draft turned heads during the preseason and earned the No. 2 QB job as a rookie behind Alex Smith, who led Kansas City to a 27-20 win over the Eagles ... Mahomes was the 10th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft after a 2016 season in which he won the Sammy Baugh Award, led the FBS in total touchdowns and set FBS single-game record for passing yards and total offense.
Bradley Marquez - Wide Receiver, Los Angeles Rams
Week 2 Matchup: Washington 27, Los Angeles 20
After injuring his knee in a preseason game, Marquez cleared waivers and has been placed on injured reserve by the Rams ... Marquez played four seasons at Texas Tech (2010-14) before the Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2015.
La'Adrian Waddle - Offensive Lineman, New England Patriots
Week 2Â Matchup: New England 36, New Orleans 20
After registering 13 snaps in New England's season opener, Waddle did not play in the Patriots' week two win ... Waddle played four seasons at Tech (2009-12) before being signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent.
DeAndre Washington - Running back, Oakland Raiders
Week 2 Matchup: Oakland 45, New York Jets 20
Washington continues to show his worth as a versatile change-of-pace back in Oakland, recording 20 yards on the ground and 15 through the air in the Raiders' blowout of New York ... Washington was the first Red Raider running back to register back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons since former Doak Walker Award winner Byron Hanspard in 1995 and 1996 ... one of five players in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards twice in a career.
Davis Webb - Quarterback, New York Giants
Week 2 Matchup: Detroit 24, New York Giants 10
Webb begins his rookie season as the No. 3 QB on the Giants' depth chart. He did not record a snap in Sunday's loss ... Webb was the 87th pick (3rd round) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, after a collegiate career that included three years at Texas Tech, two as the starting quarterback. Set a school record with at least one TD pass in each of the first 18 starts of his career.
