Texas Tech drops two on first day at Big 12 Match Play Tournament

HOCKLEY, Texas – Texas Tech opened the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Tournament with a pair of losses to No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State and Kansas on Friday at the Club at Houston Oaks.
The Red Raiders will play West Virginia at 8 a.m. on Saturday in their third match of the tournament before playing TCU in the afternoon session.
No. 25 Texas Tech would battle with the Jayhawks but fell 3-2-1 in the second match on Friday. Kyle Hogan earned a 2&1 victory for the Red Raiders and Sandy Scott was 2UP winner over Drew Shepard. Markus Braadlie played to an all-square finish in his matchup with Harry Hillier, while Ivan Ramirez, Thomas Allkins and Adam Blomme taking losses.
The Red Raiders opened the match play event with a 4-0-2 loss to No. 1 Oklahoma State with Blomme and Allkins playing their Cowboy opponent to an all-square result. Ivan Ramirez fell in his first match, 3&1 to Viktor Hovland while Braadlie and Scott both took 2&1 defeats to their opponent. Hogan lost 4&2 to Austin Eckroat to start the tournament.
Oklahoma State and Kansas lead Pool A with six points each after the first of three days, while Oklahoma has four points to top Pool B followed by Texas and Baylor who have three points.
The Big 12 Match Play Tournament will continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday before the fourth match at 1:30 p.m. at the 7,007-yard, par-71 course. The fifth match of the tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Sunday to complete pool play and set up the championship match.
