October 19, 2018 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team is set to compete at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational which is being played at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Florida. The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Sunday before the final round on Tuesday in what is billed as college golf's Major Championship.
The Red Raiders will be represented at the tournament by Sandy Scott, Ivan Ramirez, Adam Blomme, Kyle Hogan and Thomas Allkins in their final fall tournament of the season. Texas Tech is competing against Texas, Central Florida, Augusta, Cal, Illinois, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Florida, North Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana State, West Virginia, Auburn and Washington at the par-72, 7,544 yard course (Tiger Tees). This will be the 14th time the Red Raiders have played in the Tavistock Collegiate which began in 2004.
Ramirez shot 4-under-par last season at the Tavistock Collegiate and finished tied for sixth after posting 68-74-70 – 212 for the Red Raiders who finished seventh as a team at the event. Ramirez started his senior season by shooting 8-under and claiming ninth at The Carmel Cup the final weekend of August before finishing 30th at the Showdown in the Rockies. Scott led the Red Raiders at the Showdown in the Rockies by shooting 8-under for fourth, while Hogan was 3-under for seventh. Scott and Hogan both played in last year's Tavistock Collegiate along with Ramirez, while Blomme and Allkins will be playing the tournament for the first time.
As a team, the Red Raiders finished seventh at The Carmel Cup to open the season at Pebble Beach before a runner-up showing at the Showdown in the Rockies in Idaho. Texas Tech is coming of the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Tournament in Houston where they went 1-3-1 with an all-square result against No. 5-ranked Oklahoma last Sunday.
Cal is the defending Tavistock Collegiate champion after shooting 6-under last year, while Illinois and Florida were tied for second at 5-under. The Red Raiders were 7-over (286-296-289 – 871) last season at the tournament.
Texas Tech will open its spring schedule on Feb. 7 at the Amer Ari Invitational in Kona, Hawaii.
