Red Raiders Take Fourth at Tavistock Collegiate

WINDERMERE, Fla. – Texas Tech's Sandy Scott and Ivan Ramirez shot 4-under-par and recorded a pair of top-10 individual finishes to lead the Red Raiders to a fourth-place showing at 7-under at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational.

"Overall, I was really pleased with the way the guys handled the week and the course," Texas Tech coach Greg Sands said. "We played our best golf on the hardest day. Unfortunately, today we didn't execute on some key holes at the beginning and never recovered. We beat some really good competition this week with five Top-25 teams in Texas, Illinois, LSU, and South Carolina."

The Red Raiders completed their final fall tournament at the Isleworth Country Club on Tuesday by shooting 285-281-291 – 857, while No. 13-ranked Vanderbilt won the tournament at 31-under followed by No. 22 Auburn and No. 18 Arizona State that were both at 11-under after three rounds. Texas Tech's fourth-place finished was followed by No. 25 LSU (2-under), No. 12 Texas which was at 1-under, West Virginia (even-par) and No. 8 Illinois (13-over) at the 15-team tournament. The Red Raiders led the tournament with 57 birdies and were at 12-under on par 5s throughout the week.

Vanderbilt's Will Gordon won the individual title at 16-under (64-70-66 200) followed by Auburn's Brandon Mancheno who was the tournament runner-up at 12-under.

Scott and Ramirez tied for 10th with a pair of scorecards that totaled 212 after 54 holes. Scott carded a 72-70-70 – 212, while Ramirez was at 71-70-71 – 212 to record a top-10 finish at the Tavistock for the second straight season. A junior from Scotland, Scott would shoot rounds of 2-under on Monday and Tuesday after opening the tournament with a 72 on Sunday. He made five birdies during his final round on Tuesday to record his second top-10 finish of the fall after a fourth-place result at the Showdown in the Rockies in mid-September. Ramirez was under par each round this week and closed out the tournament with three birdies, 14 pars and only a double-bogey on No. 5 to blemish his scorecard.

Adam Blomme finished the tournament in 16th overall after shooting 70-69-76 – 215, while Thomas Allkins shot 75-72-75 – 222 and Kyle Hogan a 72-79-75 – 226. Blomme's round of 69 on Monday proved to be the low round for the Red Raiders in the tournament.

Texas Tech will return to competition at the Amer Ari Invitational on Feb. 7-9, 2019 in Kona, Hawaii in the first of six spring tournament will lead into the Big 12 Championship on April 26-28 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
