Associated head softball coach Sam Marder will serve as the Division I Assistant Coach Rep.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Texas Tech associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Sam Marder to its board of directors as its Division I Assistant Coach Representative, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
Marder is one of six members voted to join the NFCA's Board of Directors for 2019 and will begin her three-year term in January. Marder will act as a representative for matters regarding her assistant coaching peers at the Division I level.
Â
The NFCA was founded in 1983 to advance the sport by creating awards programs, hosting a national coaching convention and providing a forum for coaches to discuss issues effecting the game.
Â
Marder is entering her third season on the Red Raider staff. She was promoted to associate head coach this August by head coach Adrian Gregory. She has over seven years of experience as an assistant coach at the Division I level, including stops in Boise State, College of Charleston and now at Texas Tech.
Â
A 2016 Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and former professional player, Marder oversees Texas Tech's offensive efforts while also working with the Red Raider catchers and assisting with recruiting.
Â
In her first year with the program, the Red Raiders eclipsed 50 home runs as a team, compiled 13 triples to match its fourth best output in school history and increased its number of bases on balls. In 2018, Marder helped boost Tech's numbers in nearly every offensive statistical category, including a jump in batting from .243 in 2017 to .294.
Â
Under her tutelage, Jessica Hartwell become the third NFCA All-American in program history as the junior set school records in home runs, slugging and runs scored. Additionally, Marder groomed freshman catcher Kelcy Leach into an All-Big 12 Freshman Team performer behind the plate.
