Matt Wells was announced as the 16th head coach in program history Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech ushered in a new era of Red Raider Football on Saturday as Matt Wells was formally introduced as the 16th head coach in program history.
In front of a crowd of supporters and media at United Supermarkets Arena, Wells laid out his vision for the Red Raider football program, stating quite simply "this is a reload, not a rebuild."
"What a great day to be a Red Raider," Wells said in his opening statement. "I am very, very honored and extremely humbled to be your next head football coach and have a chance to coach and influence these young men and their teammates in a major, major positive way."
Wells will begin finalizing his first coaching staff at Texas Tech in the upcoming days, but he was joined at the press conference by his new offensive coordinator David Yost and his defensive coordinator David Patterson.
Below are several social media reactions since Wells' hire Thursday evening.
