Antoine Wesley ranked second among FBS wideouts during the regular season with 1,410 receiving yards
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech junior wide receiver Antoine Wesley announced Monday he is foregoing his final year of eligibility to enter the 2019 NFL Draft.
Wesley was among the FBS leaders this season in almost every receiving category after hauling in 88 passes for 1,410 yards and nine touchdowns. Entering bowl season, Wesley currently ranks second nationally in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (117.5) as well as eighth in receptions per game (7.3). He is the Big 12 leader in all three categories.
Wesley's breakout performance places him only behind Michael Crabtree (2007) and former teammate Keke Coutee (2017) on the Tech single-season receiving yards list. He will look to now join them as NFL Draft selections as Crabtree was a first-round pick by the 49ers in 2009, while the Houston Texans chose Coutee early in the fourth round a year ago.
The Las Vegas native jumped on the national radar early in the season when he snapped the Tech single-game record with 261 receiving yards against Houston. Wesley caught a career-high 13 passes and found the end zone three times via the air in the Red Raiders' 63-49 victory over the Cougars.
The performance marked his first of six 100-yard performances this season and the first of four games with at least 150 yards. He is the only power-five receiver to record 150 receiving yards four times this season and one of only four wideouts nationally to do so.
Following the regular season, Wesley was named to the All-Big 12 first team by the Associated Press and the second team by the conference coaches. He was previously a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented to the nation's top receiver regardless of position.
Wesley will look to continue the success of several other Red Raiders in the NFL, namely the likes of Crabtree, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Coutee, Cameron Batson and Jakeem Grant. Tech entered the 2018 NFL season tied with Clemson for the most wide receivers on 53-man rosters among FBS schools nationally.
The 2019 NFL Draft will take place April 25-27 in Nashville's historic downtown district. Coverage will be provided all three days across ABC, ESPN and NFL Network.
