Texas Tech is back on the DCTF cover for the second time already under Joey McGuire
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will once again grace the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football this summer as the publication unveiled its 2026 edition Monday, featuring head coach Joey McGuire, general manager James Blanchard, senior linebacker Ben Roberts, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and Board of Regents Chaiman Cody Campbell.
Texas Tech's rise under McGuire to a Big 12 Conference title and national contender earned the Red Raiders cover status for the second time already during his tenure. The main cover story will detail how the quartet of McGuire, Blanchard, Hocutt and Campbell collectively built the Red Raiders in what DCTF describes as "Inside the Modern College Football Machine."
"We know the power we wield when deciding the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football," DCTF editor-in-chief Greg Tepper said in the publication's announcement. "This year, it felt right to spotlight the people behind the most fascinating story in college football. Texas Tech's rise from mid-tier to national power has challenged assumptions about what's possible in the modern era, and no program has embraced the changing landscape of college athletics more boldly. This is a story about ambition, innovation and the pursuit of relevance at the highest level of college football, and it felt worthy of capturing of our cover."
Often dubbed the "Football Bible of Texas," DCTF previously placed McGuire on its cover prior to his first season in 2022, highlighting his ties to the great history of high school football in the state alongside UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor. In addition to covering every FBS and FCS collegiate program in the state, DCTF provides an in-depth analysis of every high school in Texas, ranging from the 6A all the way to 1A levels.
This is the first time Texas Tech has appeared on the DCTF cover by itself since 2016 when Patrick Mahomes II and Kliff Kingsbury headlined that summer's magazine. For Campbell and Hocutt, they are the first administrators and non-coaches or players to ever appear on the magazine's cover in now 67 total editions.
DCTF has turned to Texas Tech for several of its most-iconic covers in history, showcasing the charming personality of Spike Dykes in 1990 and the nation's top pass-catching duo of Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell with their head coach Mike Leach in 2008. Dykes made two appearances on the magazine cover, joining several of his coaching peers in 1996 to commemorate the first season in the Big 12 Conference. The DCTF cover has also featured Donny Anderson in 1965, Charles Napper in 1971, Rodney Allison in 1977 and then Kliff Kingsbury prior to the 2001-02 seasons and Adell Duckett in 2004.
The magazine will hit stores throughout Texas this summer and can be purchased in advance by visiting www.TexasFootball.com/subscribe.
