Wesley Named First Team All-American by FWAA

Antoine Wesley became the fourth Texas Tech wide receiver to be named a first team All-American
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech junior wide receiver Antoine Wesley was tabbed Wednesday a first team All-American in a vote by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
Wesley, who announced his intentions to forego his senior season and enter the 2019 NFL Draft earlier this afternoon, becomes the 31st Red Raider all-time to be recognized as a first team All-American and the first since Jace Amaro in 2013.
Wesley is the fourth Red Raider wide receiver to garner first team All-America honors, joining the likes of Texas Tech Ring of Honor member Dave Parks (1963) as well as Lloyd Hill (1992) and Michael Crabtree (2007-08). He was joined on the FWAA's first team by Massachusetts wideout Andy Isabella.
This is the third postseason accolade already for Wesley, who was named to the All-Big 12 first team last week by the Associated Press and the second team by the conference coaches. He was previously a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is presented to the nation's top receiver regardless of position.
Wesley was among the FBS leaders this season in almost every receiving category after hauling in 88 passes for 1,410 yards and nine touchdowns. Entering bowl season, Wesley currently ranks second nationally in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (117.5) as well as eighth in receptions per game (7.3). He is the Big 12 leader in all three categories.
Wesley, a native of Las Vegas and Cibolo Steele High School in the San Antonio area, compiled six 100-yard games on the season, three of which that came against teams currently ranked in the College Football Playoff top-25 poll (Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas).
Wesley totaled at least 150 receiving yards four times, including a Tech single-game record 261 yards early in the season versus Houston. He remains the only power-five receiver to record 150 receiving yards in four different games this season and one of four wideouts nationally to do so.
The FWAA All-America teams are selected with the help of its members and an All-America committee, which represents all regions of the country. The FWAA All-America team is one of five used by the NCAA to determine consensus All-America honors.
