Blomme Leads No. 14 Red Raiders On Day 1 In Hawaii

KONA, Hawaii – No. 14 Texas Tech men's golf began the defense of its 2017 title at the Amer Ari Invitational on Thursday, at the Waikoloa Kings Course, in Kona, Hawaii.
Tech started hot, going -8 on the first four holes of the day. Hurly Long and Adam Blomme carried the load early, each starting 3-under on the first six holes.
From there, the Red Raiders hit the toughest part of the course, holes 8-12, and registered 12 bogeys along the way. However, Tech rebounded late, sparked by four consecutive Wes Artac birdies, which helped nudge the team score back in the right direction before it settled at 281 (-7), two shots off the lead.
The Red Raiders, one of 10 teams in the field ranked in the Golfstat top 50, currently sit ahead of six of those teams, including No. 8 Auburn and No. 10 Stanford.
Blomme paced the Red Raiders, with an impressive 68 in his Red Raider spring debut. He only had one blemish on the scorecard, a bogey on 17, which he immediately erased with a birdie on 18. He is tied for second overall, at -4.
Artac's flurry of birdies moved him into a tie for 17th at -2, Long (-1) is tied for 27th, Sandy Scott went even par and is tied for 38th, and Fredrik Nilehn (+1) is tied for 48th.
Playing as individuals, Kyle Hogan and Ivan Ramirez each carded 4-over 76s, and are tied for 85th on the leaderboard.
The Red Raiders will once again tee off at 11:30 a.m. CT tomorrow, paired with No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 16 Texas. Golfstat will provide live scoring.
