LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Erin Edmoundson of the Texas Tech softball team has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
A native of Deer Park, Texas, Edmoundson becomes the sixth Red Raider all-time to receive the Big 12 pitcher of the Week honor and first since Cara Custer in 2015. She is just the second freshman in Tech history to earn the accolade, following Amanda Renfro who won it twice as a freshman in 1998.
Â
Edmoundson led the Big 12 in wins (3-0) during week three, recording 13 strikeouts to zero walks in 9.2 innings of work. Among Big 12 pitchers who tossed 7.0 innings or more, she posted the league's top ERA (0.72) and lowest opponent batting average (.167), allowing just one run and six hits on the weekend.
Â
Texas Tech swept its three-game series with Northwestern State to open its home slate last weekend. Edmoundson tossed a total of 8.0 scoreless innings in Friday's doubleheader, giving up just four hits while striking out nine. She kept it up on Saturday, adding another 1.2 innings with four strikeouts, a run and two hits.
Â
Edmoundson currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 with a 1.12 ERA. A double-major in mechanical engineering and math, she sits at 4-1 for the season with a .170 opponent batting average in 31.1 innings pitched.
Â
The Red Raiders are back on the dirt at Rocky Johnson Field this Tuesday, Feb. 27, as they host New Mexico State for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
