Tech falls to Oregon State, has game against CSUN postponed to Sunday..
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Texas Tech softball team got in one of its two games Saturday at the CSUN Tournament, falling to Oregon State 4-2 before rain forced its game at CSUN to be moved to Sunday.
Â
Now, the Red Raiders (13-8) are slated to play a game against Oregon State and CSUN on Sunday as well as finish Friday night's game against CSUN that was suspended due to darkness.
Â
Redshirt freshman Heaven Burton continued her hot streak with a 2-for-4 outing against the Beavers, and freshman Breanna Russell added a 2-for-4 performance with a double and a run scored.
Â
The middle of the lineup did the most damage for Oregon State (17-8) as infielders Missy Nunes and Camryn Ybarra combined to go 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs. Beaver Meehra Nelson picked up the win for the OSU, giving up six hits in 6.0 innings of work and yielding a pair of runs.
Â
Tech's Erin Edmoundson (9-2) was tabbed with her first loss in 10 decisions. She went 4.0 innings and gave up four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Sophomore Kassidy Scott tossed two shutout innings in relief.
Â
The Beavers scored one in the second and two in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The Red Raiders responded in the fifth as Russell blasted a one-out double to deep center that was out of reach of the center fielder. Cochran then tallied her seventh RBI of the season with a base hit that brought in the pinch-running freshman Marissa Mirabal.
Â
OSU would extend their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Tech, however, kept the pressure up as junior Kiana Workman doubled to lead off the sixth and would score on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-2. That would be all Tech could manage, however, as OSU's Mariah Mazon came on to earn her third save of the season.
