No. 9 men’s golf tees off Monday morning in San Diego
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 9 Texas Tech men's golf team will tee off for the second time in a span of five days on Monday, participating in the Lamkin San Diego Classic, at San Diego Country Club, in Chula Vista, Calif.
The Red Raiders picked up a second-place finish for the fifth time this season last week at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, in Las Vegas. Tech was powered by top-20 finishes from Hurly Long (T7), Fredrik Nilehn (T11) and Ivan Ramirez (T20). Nilehn has finished in the top 15 individually at each tournament this season.
The Red Raiders are one of 7 teams in the 16-team field to be ranked in Golfstat's top 40. Joining the Red Raiders are: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Texas, No. 27 North Carolina, No. 30 Louisville, No. 34 Colorado State and No. 40 Arizona.
The Red Raiders have a combined scoring average of 70.4 this season, which is tied for the fourth-best mark in the nation. That number is spearheaded by Nilehn's 69.7 average, which is a big part of the formula that pegs him as the No. 7 player in the country.
The Red Raiders tee off at 10:30 a.m. CT in a shotgun start on Monday, which will feature 36 holes of play on the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club.
Live stats and pairings will be available at golfstat.com. For more news and updates on Texas Tech Men's Golf, follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
