Volleyball Completes Signing Class with Kiari Gier
April 11, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
The libero from Honolulu makes the eighth and final addition to the 2018 class.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Head coach Tony Graystone and the Texas Tech Volleyball staff wrapped up their 2018 signing class, signing libero Kiari Gier to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.
Â
A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Gier lettered four years at Maryknoll High School where she was twice named Interscholastic League of Honolulu All-Star Honorable Mention following both her junior and senior seasons.
Â
"I'm really happy about Kiari and for us to be able to find such a quality libero this late in the recruiting cycle," head coach Tony Graystone said. "Kiari is really going to improve our team's first touch and help us offset some of the ball control we're losing from last year's team. She's very quick and athletic, and has a great feel for the game."
Â
The 5'5 Gier also played for the Rainbow Volleyball Club of Hawaii, helping the squad to three-straight AAU Girls' Junior National Volleyball Championship appearances.
Â
"She trains the position very similarly to how we teach it, so she should have a small learning curve and help us immediately." Graystone said. "Kiari is the last piece of the 2018 recruiting class, and we can now look ahead to this fall and building on the 2017 season."
Â
Gier is the second libero and eighth signee for the 2018 class. In addition to her outstanding play on the volleyball court, the 5'5 Gier also won a state title in gymnastics at the age of 12 and was on the Principal's List at Maryknoll.
Â
With two signees already on campus in Alex Kirby and Haley Killinger, the Red Raiders will add six more pieces to the puzzle entering the fall and look to build on a memorable 2017 season that saw them advance to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship title match.
