The Players' Journal: Senior Weekend
April 20, 2018 | Softball
Written by senior Kaylee Strickland
Holy smokes. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that the time to celebrate MY senior weekend is already upon us. As a freshman three years ago, I really had no idea it would soon be my turn for one final Big 12 matchup at the Rocky Johnson, whether I was ready for it or not! I know for a fact that I could have never anticipated these past four years to fly by as quickly as they have. Â
Â
With the amount of excitement that I feel to have reached such a milestone in my life as a four-year Texas Tech softball player, I also feel the same amount of sadness that I will eventually take on a much different role in the game I have loved since my childhood! So many of the countless blessings in my life have come from softball. This game has always taken care of me and has opened so many doors for me as my life continues to unfold!
Â
But all mushy feelings aside, this is a huge weekend for Texas Tech Softball! All week we have been prepping and preparing to be the best versions of ourselves in order to get to where we want to be, which is POSTSEASON! The coaches have absolutely outdone themselves with the practice plans this week in ensuring that we are as confident as we can be when it comes time to take the field against Iowa State on Friday. There has been a heavy dose of one-on-one time with the coaches this week, so I truly believe that everyone will exceed all expectations for the upcoming weekend. I've noticed that there is a quiet confidence through out the softball facility and within each of my teammates because we know that our ultimate goal is so attainable and within our reach. If we grind it out now, we will inevitably reap the rewards!
Â
If you haven't been around my teammates, take my word for it when I say that this team is something special. I've never been around such a self-driven team like this one. We have put in the work and the hours, and I know myself and the rest of my teammates will continue to put forth every fiber of our being to get to the postseason. All of that excitement starts this weekend! YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT!
