Texas Tech advances to NCAA Second Round to face Illinois
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 11 Texas Tech Women's Tennis team is headed to the NCAA Second Round for the fourth straight season after sweeping Army, 4-0, Friday afternoon.

This is the fifth second round appearance in six seasons for the Lady Raiders. With the win, Texas Tech improves to 21-6 on the season.

Alex Valenstein and Lana Rush combined to take the first doubles court of the match. The two took down Army's Einck and Son, 6-2, just before No. 28 Sabrina Federici and Sarah Dvorak clinched the point with a 6-2 victory on court one.

All six singles players picked up first set wins.

Junior Alex Valenstein led the charge with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Army's Genevieve McCormick at the No. 3 position. With the win, Valenstein improves to 12-6 in dual matches.

No. 115 Katelyn Jackson followed in Valenstein's footsteps, sweeping Gloria Son in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Since returning this season, Jackson has posted a perfect 6-0 record. Five of those six wins have come in two sets.

No. 58 Junior Felicity Maltby clinched the match for the Lady Raiders with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Melanie Allen. Maltby improves to 12-7 in dual matches on the year.

The Lady Raiders are set to face No. 19 Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Winston-Salem, N.C., next weekend.
