OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Texas Tech softball wrapped up its stay in Oklahoma City with a 9-2 loss to Texas on Saturday in the third place game of the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at the USA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex.

The Red Raiders (29-26) placed fourth at the event for their best finish since making the semifinals of the 2008 Big 12 Championship. Tech defeated third-seeded Baylor in its opener before falling to second-seeded OSU Friday night.

Tech scored the opening run of the game in the top of the first, but the fourth-seeded Longhorns (32-24) responded with the next five runs of the contest to hold a 5-1 lead after five. Tech cut the lead to three in the sixth, before Texas sealed the win with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Erin Edmoundson (14-11), who tossed over 200 pitches during pool play on Friday, got the start and tallied five innings of work before giving way to sophomore Kassidy Scott. Edmoundson gave up three earned runs on 10 hits with a strikeout and a walk.

Edmoundson totaled 17.0 innings over three games, yielding six earned runs while piling up seven strikeouts. The Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection played both ways for Tech, finishing 5-10 for the weekend with hits in all three games.

Redshirt sophomore Karli Hamilton hit safely in all three games as well to extend her hitting streak to 16 games, matching fellow outfielder Heaven Burton for the longest hitting streak of the year. She went 1-for-3 with a double against the Longhorns and scored one of the two Red Raider runs.

Redshirt freshman Michaela Cochran led Tech with seven hits in Oklahoma City. She was, however, held hitless against the Longhorns as Paige von Sprecken (11-11) turned in a complete game for Texas, surrendering just five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Texas Tech got off to a solid start in the first inning as Burton led off with a single and took second on an error by the centerfielder. Cochran bunted her to third and then junior Jessica Hartwell hit a sac fly to right to put Tech ahead 1-0. Hartwell drove in a team-high five RBI on the weekend highlighted by her 20^th home run of the season against Oklahoma State Friday night.

Freshman Kelcy Leach brought in Tech's other run of the game with an RBI single in the sixth that cut the UT lead to 5-2. The Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection had three RBI in Oklahoma City and now has 19 on the year.

Taylor Ellsworth led the Longhorns at the plate on Saturday with a 3-for4 performance, including a double and an RBI. Five different Longhorns posted multi-hit games as Texas moved to 4-0 against the Red Raiders in 2018.
