Hartwell becomes the program’s tenth first-team selection.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Jessica Hartwell and redshirt freshman Heaven Burton were both honored on the NFCA All-Region Teams on Thursday with Hartwell being named to the first team while Burton was a third-team selection.
Â
This marks the seventh time in program history multiple Red Raiders have been honored and the first since 2015.
Â
Hartwell becomes the tenth Red Raider in program history to be named to the first team and the second under head coach Adrian Gregory. She will advance to the All-America stage of the NFCA postseason awards that are voted on by member coaches from each respective region.
Â
The Galt, Calif., native ranks sixth in the nation with 20 home runs on the year, a new Texas Tech record. She also ranks top-10 nationally in runs per game, slugging percentage and total bases while hitting .400 through the regular season and Big 12 tournament.
Â
Burton has racked up 68 hits on the year while hitting .370, both of which rank second on the team. In her first season as a Red Raider, the Round Rock, Texas, native was one of two Red Raiders to break the single-season triples record with five on the year and added nine doubles while going 8-for-11 in stolen bases.
Â
Tech has now had a player represented on the all-region teams for each of the last nine seasons.
Â
The Red Raiders (30-26) finished fourth at the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and accepted a bid to the 2018 National Invitational Softball Championship. Tech won its first game at the Conway Regional on Wednesday and faces UT Arlington on Thursday at 3 p.m. for a spot in the regional final.
