The sophomore duo earned second & third team All-America distinctions from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Josh Jung & Grant Little have been awarded All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced today.
Â
Jung was recognized as a second team member, while Little landed on the outlet's third team. It marks back-to-back years Tech has had two selected by Collegiate Baseball, as Steven Gingery (first team) and Hunter Hargrove (third team) were named to the squads in 2017.
Â
Jung & Little's distinctions also make it the third-straight year the Red Raiders have been represented by the publication, as Eric Gutierrez (second team) was recognized in 2016. Overall, Tech has had 20 All-America honorees from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Â
Jung, the third baseman from San Antonio, leads the team several offensive categories heading into postseason play, topping the squad in batting average. He also paces the Red Raiders in hits (86), RBI (73) and runs scored (63). He also leads the conference in each of those categories, while ranking fifth in the country in RBI.
Â
Earlier this season, Jung recorded the program's first cycle in a decade, making him the sixth Red Raider to do so. His was the first to come with a 5-for-5 day at the plate, with two homers, along with eight RBI.
Â
Little, an outfielder from Midland, trails only Jung in each of those offensive numbers both on the squad and in the conference. He heads into the tournament with 79 hits, 67 RBI and 58 runs to go with a team-high 20 doubles and 12 homers.
Â
Little also made history this year, throwing down the team's only nine-RBI performance of the year and third in school history. He rattled off two homers, including a grand slam along with two other base hits, to become the first Red Raider since 1984 with nine RBI in a game. He also had the first five-hit game of the year at Louisville on March 13 and launched two dingers again at Oklahoma State on May 18.
Â
The Red Raiders open the NCAA Lubbock Regional on Friday, June 1, against New Mexico State at 1 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
