Sordet records eight birdies in bogey-free opening round
GOTHENBURG, Sweden – Former Texas Tech All-American golfer Clement Sordet opened the European Tour Nordea Masters with a blistering round of 62 to take the overall lead through 18 holes on Thursday.
Sordet tore through Hills Golf Club, going bogey-free and snagging eight birdies, on his way to a two-shot lead over the field. The 62 was Sordet's lowest round of his European Tour career and tied for the lowest recorded round on the tour this season.
"I played really well," Sordet said. "I hadn't been playing great the past few weeks, so it felt really great to start eight-under. The game feels nice right now, and I'm really looking forward to this week."
Sordet started the round with four-straight birdies, and then parred out the remainder of the opening nine to start with a four-under 32. Then, on the back nine, where par is 34, he birdied Nos. 11, 12 and 13 before also carding birdie on the last to polish off the 62.
Joining Sordet on the leaderboard representing Tech are senior Adam Blomme (+5), in a tie for 128th, and former players Oscar Floren (+1), who is tied for 79th, Hannes Ronneblad (+3), who is tied for 113th and Fredrik Nilehn (+4), who is in a tie for 119th.
Sordet will tee off Friday morning at 5:50 a.m. CT, Nilehn will hit the first tee at 1:30 a.m. CT, Ronneblad will tee off at 2:10 a.m. CT, and Floren will get started at 7:10 a.m.
