Ramirez, Hogan Fire Second-Round 66's At Pebble Beach
September 01, 2018 | Men's Golf
The Red Raiders remain in sixth overall
LUBBOCK, Texas – After a rough go as a team on day one, Texas Tech men's golf picked up great performances from a couple team leaders on day two of The Carmel Cup, at Pebble Beach, on Saturday.
Senior Ivan Ramirez and sophomore Kyle Hogan each carded bogey-free 66's to propel the Red Raiders to a round of -10 on the day, keeping the team in sixth, ahead of No. 4 Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
"I was much more pleased today," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "Kyle and Ivan bounced back like the talented players they are, just as I expected they would. We have a chance to beat some really good teams tomorrow, so I'm excited to see how we compete."
Hogan started his round with four birdies on the first five holes and steadied out without a blemish the rest of the way. Ramirez recorded a pair of 33's for his 66. It was a nice bounce back for two key members of last year's run to NCAA match play. Ramirez (-7) is tied for 7th and Hogan (-4) is tied for 19th.
Thomas Allkins was also under par on Saturday, shooting a -2 70 to move to +2 for the tournament, tied for 32nd. Markus Braadlie followed up his 66 on Friday with a 74 on Saturday, moving him to -4 for the weekend, tied with Hogan for 19th.
Jansen Smith (+5, T-40) shot a 74 and Adam Blomme (+12, 47th) shot an 81 to round out the day's performance.
The Red Raiders will tee off at 8:50 a.m. CT to begin round three, tomorrow. Blomme will go first, followed by Smith, Allkins, Braadlie, Hogan and Ramirez. Tech will be paired with TCU, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
