SERIES HISTORY
- Texas Tech will be looking for its first win over Oklahoma State since the 2008 season as the Cowboys have won nine-straight games in the series. The 2017 loss to the Cowboys tied the overall series at 21-21-3 all-time between the two schools.
- The Red Raiders will be searching for their first win in Stillwater since 2001 as Texas Tech has dropped each of its last seven visits to Boone Pickens Stadium. Tech has fallen in all but two of those games by seven points per less.
- Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 25 entering each contest of its nine-game winning streak over the Red Raiders. Texas Tech has not topped a ranked Oklahoma State team in Stillwater since recording a 27-3 victory over the then No. 24 Cowboys in 1997.
- Texas Tech has fallen just shy of breaking its losing streak to the Cowboys in each of the last two meetings which resulted in a 45-44 loss in 2016 and a 41-34 setback in 2017.
- The Red Raiders are 9-12 against the Cowboys during the Big 12 era despite winning seven of the first nine meetings after the league formed prior to the 1996 season.
- Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have produced several high-scoring shootouts in recent years as the two schools have combined for at least 75 points in each of the previous six meetings.
- The 2015 season saw the two teams combine for 123 points as the Cowboys outlasted the Red Raiders for a 70-53 victory. It marked the most combined points in school history at the time, a mark that has since been broken when Tech and Oklahoma combined for 125 points during the 2016 campaign.
TEXAS TECH IN BIG 12 OPENERS
- Texas Tech enters this weekend with a 13-9 record all-time in Big 12 openers. The Red Raiders have won four of their last six Big 12 openers thanks to victories over TCU (2013), Iowa State (2012) and Kansas (2011, 2016).
- Texas Tech is opening its Big 12 slate on the road for the first time since 2014 when the Red Raiders fell at No. 24 Oklahoma State, 45-35. That game served as the collegiate debut of Patrick Mahomes II. The Red Raiders are 8-6 all-time in Big 12 openers on the road.
- This will be the fifth time in the past six years where the Red Raiders have opened conference action against a ranked opponent after facing No. 15 Oklahoma State in 2017, No. 3 TCU in 2015, No. 24 Oklahoma State in 2014 and 24th-ranked TCU in 2013. Texas Tech is 1-3 in those games with a 20-10 victory over TCU in 2013. The Red Raiders came close to topping the Horned Frogs again in 2015 before a final-minute touchdown helped TCU escape Lubbock with a 55-52 victory.
- Oklahoma State has won each of the three times Texas Tech opened league play against the Cowboys, two of which took place in Stillwater. The Cowboys edged Tech, 49-45, in 2007 and the collected a 45-35 win in 2014.
RED RAIDERS SET FOR FIRST TRUE ROAD TEST
- The trip to Stillwater will represent Texas Tech's first true road test of the season as the Red Raiders open the year with a neutral-site contest versus Ole Miss and then back-to-back home games against Lamar and Houston.
- Texas Tech will play just four true road games this season with upcoming trips to TCU (Oct. 11), Iowa State (Oct. 27) and Kansas State (Nov. 17) in addition to this weekend's jaunt to Stillwater. It marks the fewest true road games in a season for the Red Raiders since the 2009 campaign.
- Texas Tech will close the regular season with its annual trip to AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the Texas Farm Bureau Shootout against Baylor. Dating back to the inaugural football season in 1925, this will be the first time in school history Tech has played multiple neutral-site contests during the regular season.
NEW FACES, SAME RESULTS ON OFFENSE
- Despite losing its starting quarterback and four wide receivers from a year ago (all to the NFL), Texas Tech once again ranks as the nation's top offense as the Red Raiders lead the country in total yards per game (624.3) and passing yards per game (448.7) through the first three weeks of the season.
- The Red Raiders head into this weekend's tilt with Oklahoma State ranked third nationally in scoring offense after averaging 55.7 points per game thus far. Texas Tech has scored at least 60 points in each of its last two games, marking the first time the Red Raiders have done so in consecutive games since 2005.
- Through the first three games (two starts) of his collegiate career, Alan Bowman sure hasn't looked like a true freshman. He has thrown for 1,160 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions on 133 attempts during that span, ranking second nationally for passing yards per game (386.7) and third for total offense per game (392.7).
- Bowman turned in one of the most impressive performances by a freshman in NCAA history last weekend versus Houston as he completed 43-of-59 passes for 605 yards and five touchdowns, all season highs.
- Bowman's 605 yards through the air marked the most by a freshman in Big 12 history, snapping the previous record of 598 yards set by Patrick Mahomes II against Baylor in 2014.
- Bowman finished six passing yards shy of the NCAA freshman passing record that was set in 1998 by Nevada's David Neill against New Mexico State. It marked only the third time in FBS history where a freshman has thrown for at least 600 yards in a game.
- Antoine Wesley put together one of the best performances by a Red Raider wideout in school history against Houston as he snapped the Texas Tech single-game record with 261 receiving yards. He broke the previous mark of 255 yards that was set by Joel Filani against Kansas State in 2005.
- Through three weeks, Wesley has hauled in 23 passes for 413 yards and four touchdowns, all team highs. He currently ranks fourth nationally in receiving yards per game (137.7), fifth in receiving yards (413), seventh in receiving touchdowns (4) and 22nd in all-purpose yards (137.7).
