The Red Raiders promote Bjerch-Andresen from an assistant coach role
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Men's Golf Assistant Coach Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen has been promoted to the role of Associate Head Coach, head coach Greg Sands announced Tuesday.
Bjerch-Andresen joined the Texas Tech men's golf staff as its assistant coach in 2017. During his first season with the Red Raiders he helped guide the team to their second NCAA Match Play quarterfinal appearance in program history, after a third-place finish in the stroke play portion, the best showing in program history.
"I think Mikkel is the best in the country at what he does," Sands said. "The immediate impact he had speaks for itself with our results last season. He knows how fun this is supposed to be, but the guys really respect him as well. He fits this program perfectly, and I couldn't be happier he's a Red Raider."
During the postseason, Bjerch-Andresen spent most of his rounds walking with and coaching now-Tech senior Adam Blomme, who turned in one of the better postseason runs in school history, placing seventh at the NCAA Columbus Regional, turning in multiple under-par rounds at the NCAA Championship and winning his NCAA Quarterfinal match against Alabama.
"It's a great time to be a part of Texas Tech Athletics," Bjerch-Andresen said. "My wife, Hannah, and I have felt very welcomed during our first year in Lubbock and we are excited to start another one. It's been a great year for myself as a coach as I've gotten to be around talented people, great players and one of the absolute best Coaches in the country, Greg Sands. I'm extremely lucky and thankful for the opportunity he has given me in working with him. All I want to do is coach and coming to Tech to work with [Greg] Sands was a no-brainer, because he lives by the values I want to represent as a coach myself."
Bjerch-Andresen is a native of Baerum, Norway. He has played for the Norwegian junior and amateur national golf team, and spent his collegiate career at Baylor, where he notched seven top-10 finishes and 17 top-25 showings, registering 47 rounds of par or better, including a 6-under 66 on two occasions.
"I'm very much looking forward to another year of great experiences, learning and more success for Tech Athletics," Bjerch-Andresen said.
