Red Raiders Remain Unbeaten at Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, Texas – Texas Tech improved to 3-0 at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament with a 4-1-1 win over West Virginia in its only match on Saturday at the Club at Houston Oaks.
Texas and Texas Tech are tied for the lead in Pool A while Kansas holds the top spot in Pool B after the first four sessions of the 2019 men's golf Big 12 Match Play Tournament.
Sandy Scott earned a 5&4 win in his matchup, Kyle Hogan secured a 1UP victory and Jamie Stewart was a 3&2 winner. Andy Lopez continued his impressive start to the season with a 4&3 win, while Ludvig Aberg finish tied with his opponent. Hogan and Lopez are now 3-0 through the first two days of the tournament going into Sunday.
In Pool A, No. 1 seed Texas Tech and No. 4 seed Texas have each won three matches to total nine points apiece. No. 7 seed Kansas has recorded three wins and a tie to total 10 points in Pool B. Pool Play will continue Sunday morning before the Final Round is contested on Sunday afternoon to determine the winner.
The Final Match will feature the team with the highest point total from Pool A competing against the team with the highest point total from Pool B. The Third Place Match will be between the teams with the second highest point totals from their respective pools. Each team will participate during the Final Afternoon.
This is the second year of the event as the Big 12 was the first conference to host its own Match Play tournament in 2018, utilizing the format that determines the NCAA Men's Golf national champion.
During the Pool Play portion, each team will play matches during four sessions and have one session off. Teams will get three points for a win and one point for a draw.
