The Red Raiders will open up the second half of Big 12 Conference play in Lubbock against the Longhorns.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team is set to open up the second half of Big 12 Conference play with a 6 p.m. matchup against No. 1 ranked Texas on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at United Supermarkets Arena.

RED RAIDER QUICK HITS
- Etching her name atop the conference leaderboard, junior Emerson Solano picked up the first weekly honor of her career and was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance against Oklahoma. Solano led all Big 12 student-athletes with a career-high 31 digs and 7.75 digs per set against the Sooners. Her new personal best was the most digs recorded by any Big 12 player in four sets this season and her 31-dig performance sits at No. 6 in the Texas Tech record book in four-set contests. In addition to her bar-setting efforts on the back row, Solano finished the Red Raiders' match against Oklahoma with three service aces (which tied her career-high) and five assists.
- Now 14-8, the Red Raiders came in at No. 65 in the most recent RPI rankings.
- In his 21st season of coaching, Tony Graystone earned the 500th victory of his career against Kansas on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The win marked his first victory against the Jayhawks. Graystone now boasts a 500-215 overall record and 60-55 mark at Texas Tech.
- Junior Emerson Solano is just 43 digs away from collecting the 1,000th dig of her career. She posted 171 as a freshman, 444 in her sophomore season and she has already collected 342 digs this season.
- Since Alex Kirby made her return to the floor, she has averaged 10.13 assists per set. Kirby did not play in the first meeting between the Longhorns and Red Raiders.
- The Red Raiders have posted a trio of key wins against teams ranked higher in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI. Tech opened up the season with a clean sweep over VCU – who currently ranks 49th – before edging 50th-ranked Ohio State, 3-2. Tech's other victory against a higher-ranked team came when they downed Iowa State (32nd) by a score of 3-1 in Ames, Iowa.
- Racking up her 13th double-double of the season, senior Emily Hill led all Big 12 players with 5.00 digs per set as the tallied a match-high 20 kills against Oklahoma on Saturday. Hill also led the Big 12 with 5.38 points per set thanks to a 21.5-point performance in Tech's four-set match against the Sooners. Hill's 20 kills led all outside hitters in four-setters this week and her mark also ranks third this season in four-set matches. Hill started with three kills in the opening set and followed with six kills in set two. She collected another trio of kills in the third set and finished the match with eight kills in the final set. She posted 16 digs, as well as one ace and one assist, to lead the Red Raiders and the Sooners.
- Picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Texas Tech has posted three victories over higher-seeded conference opponents. Tech topped fourth-ranked Iowa State (3- 1), Kansas State (3-0) and Kansas (3-2) in the front half of Big 12 play.
- Emily Hill has recorded double-digit kills in every single match this season. Freshman Caitlin Dugan follows closely behind with nine double-digit kill matches and sophomore Brooke Kanas has tallied seven.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team celebrates three birthdays in the month of October. Freshman Kylie Trefflich turned 19 on Oct. 18 and the next day Emerson Solano celebrated her 21st birthday. Next up, sophomore Brooke Kanas is set to turn 20 years old on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
- After a stellar outing at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, sophomore Brooke Kanas became the fourth Red Raider in program history to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. She spent June 23-29 training with the nation's domestic program in Anaheim, Calif. She is the youngest Red Raider to have spent a summer training with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
- The Texas Tech volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Roll Team after the squad posted a top-25 cumulative grade point average among all Division I institutions for the 2018-19 academic year. The prestigious honor was achieved thanks to a historic year in the classroom. In the fall, Tech placed a program-record 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams – nine first-team selections and one second-team nod. The Red Raiders also paced the Big 12 for the second straight year as four student- athletes recorded 4.00 grade point averages.
