Red Raiders Fall at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Red Raider men's tennis players Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn began play in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday.
In the singles bracket, No. 39 Wynn opened play with a first-round 6-1. 6-3 loss to No. 33 Rotsaert of Stanford following a rain delay. Thomson and Wynn, who were recently ranked as the No. 2 doubles squad in the nation, fell in straight sets by a margin of 6-4, 6-1 to Decamps and Manzuchi of UCF in the opening round of the doubles main draw.
Earlier in the week, a trio of Red Raiders competed in the pre-qualifying and qualifying stages of the tournament. Sophomore Franco Ribero won his first match in the round of 256 on Saturday in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 before falling in the second round by a count of 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-6(1) to his opponent from Cleveland State.
In Monday's qualifying draw, junior Ilgiz Valiev also advanced past the opening round with a three-set thriller over Summaria of Pepperdine 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(3). He would then lose in to fifth-seeded Stachowiak of Duke 6-4, 6-1. Thomson also competed in the qualifying stage, as he fell to Frosa of Wichita State in two sets 7-6(5), 7-6(5)
Following the conclusion of the ITA All-Americans, the Red Raiders will return to action at the annual Rice Invite in Houston for their fourth of seven scheduled fall events.
