LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team opens up its 2019-20 campaign on Thursday, as it plays host to Sam Houston State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
Texas Tech and second-year head coach Marlene Stollings enter the 2019-20 season looking to build on a successful campaign last season in which the team doubled its win total from 2017-18. It was the second-biggest turnaround by any Power Five team last year.

Stollings returns three key players from a season ago, including senior forward Brittany Brewer, who earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors last year and won silver with the U.S. Pan Am Games team this summer. Also returning for the Lady Raiders is reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year Chrislyn Carr–who also earned honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition in 2019–and Sydney Goodson, who led the team in three-point shooting and minutes played last season.

A number of players will be seeing the court for the first time as Lady Raiders on Thursday, including a handful of impressive transfers and a pair of standout freshmen.

THE SERIES
- The Lady Raiders and Bearkats will be meeting for the sixth time in the series, which dates back to 1978.
- The game will be the first contest between the two foes since 2010.
- Texas Tech has won each of the previous five meetings with the Bearkats, including a 65-52 win in Lubbock in the last game in the series.
- The Lady Raiders are 4-0 against SHSU in Lubbock–where the last four meetings have taken place.
- All of Texas Tech's wins in the series have come by double-digit margins, with four of the five
coming by more than 30.
- Texas Tech is 1-0 against SHSU when colliding in season openers.

QUICK HITS
- In Coach Marlene's first season, the Lady Raiders doubled their overall win total and quadruled their Big 12 win total. It was the best record by a first-year head coach at Tech since the 2006-07 season. She had the second-best turnaround by a first-year head coach in the Power Five.
- Last season, Texas Tech was one of two teams in the Big 12 to finish the year with two players inside the conference's top 10 in scoring average, with West Virginia being the other school. Chrislyn Carr (17.9 ppg) and Brittany Brewer (16.6 ppg) each finished the 2018-19 campaign ranking fifth and sixth, respectively, in scoring. Texas Tech is the only school in the conference to return two top-10 scorers from a season ago.
- Texas Tech returns three top scorers from a season ago: Brittany Brewer, Chrislyn Carr and Sydney Goodson. In fact, among those three players, the Lady Raiders return over half of last year's scoring, assists, blocks, steals and minutes, as well as over 40 percent of last year's rebounds.
- Brittany Brewer was a double-double machine last season, racking up 13 to lead the Big 12 and rank in the top 25 nationally. Brewer turned in nine double-doubles with 20 points or more and a pair with over 30. The Abilene, Texas, native dropped 40 points and 15 rebounds in the Lady Raiders' Big 12 Tournament win over Oklahoma in March. It was her career high in points and just one rebound shy of a career high in that category as well.
