Brooks Named AP Second Team All-American

The senior linebacker receives his fourth All-America nod.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The accolades continue to roll in for Texas Tech senior linebacker Jordyn Brooks as he was named a second team All-American by the Associated Press, the outlet announced Monday afternoon.
A first team All-Big 12 selection, Brooks has now been recognized on the first two All-America teams formally recognized by the NCAA – the Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press – while the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and The Sporting News become unveiled in the coming weeks.
Brooks has now been named a second team All-American by four organizations: the AP, Walter Camp, The Athletic and Pro Football Focus. He was also recognized by the staff of Dave Campbell's Texas Football as the Defensive Player of the Year for the state of Texas and earned a spot on their All-Texas Team.
Despite missing the regular-season finale at Texas as well as the bulk of the TCU game two weeks earlier, Brooks compiled one of the best seasons all-time by a Tech linebacker as he notched 108 tackles, including an impressive 20.0 that came behind the line of scrimmage. His 108 tackles easily marked the most in his four-year career.
Brooks dropped an opponent behind the line of scrimmage in all 11 games he appeared in en route to closing the year with the most tackles for a loss by a Red Raider since Adell Duckett set the Tech school record with 24.5 in 2003. Tech averaged 6.7 tackles for a loss this season to rank 36th nationally, a significant improvement for a defense that ended the 2018 campaign in 69th place amongst its FBS peers.
Following the regular season and conference championship games, Brooks ranks third in the FBS for tackles for a loss per game (1.8), fifth in solo tackles per game (6.0) and 13th in total tackles per game (9.8). Up until his injury during the West Virginia game in early November, he was the only player nationally to rank in the top 10 for all three categories.
The successful season allowed Brooks, a Houston native, to end his career with 367 tackles, seventh-most in program history and the third-highest total during the Big 12 era.
